· The little-known War Games of 1941 were of critical importance to the planning of Soviet strategy and tactics.
General Georgi Konstantinovich Zhukov
 
· Highly respected and possessing tactical genius, Zhukov, along with Timoshenko, found weak points in the enemy's strategy and developed their own plan accordingly.
Josef Stalin
 
· Despite his brutal nature and army purges prior to war, Stalin was convinced of the Zhukov-Timoshenko strategy and learned to respect the generals. He was also responsible for rallying his people in the fight against Fascist Germany.
Preparation for War
 
· The conflict between Communism and Capitalism facilitates the need to re-organize and modernize the Soviet armed forces.
The Red Army
 
· The Red Army consisted of tanks, anti-aircraft defence, air force, and navy.
Combined-Arms Tactics
